Custom Rack Cases

Rack Cases

If you perform or tour all year round, equipment rack cases are the most appropriate choice to protect your audio, visual and lighting equipment. Any standard 19” gear can fit into a rack case. It is extremely important to protect your gear to and from gigs during transport. You need to scale the level of protection required to the hazards you are most likely to face and invest in custom rack cases.

We in Armor Cases can help you design your very own custom rack case. We create designs to meet your needs, as well as, add more features to make your experience convenient and reliable. Check out some of our general designs.

Standard Rack Case

A rack case is a simple frame or enclosure for mounting one or several 19″ equipment modules. Audio, video, lighting, power, and IT companies all require rack cases to house their delicate and expensive equipment such as power distributors, wireless receivers, data processors and amplifiers,  etc.

We use premium quality laminated plywood for all our road cases ranging from 9mm to 12mm. We offer customers choices between our range of premium Armor hardware and the more industry benchmark Penn Elcom hardware to build your rack cases. Our designs are made so that the case can withstand constant external impacts, allow ease-of-handling, and safeguard the contents amidst turbulent travels. All these work together to ensure your equipment is safe and sound during your travels inside our custom rack cases.

Flotation or Suspension Rack Case

Professional audio, LX, vision, and IT companies require the best shockproof case for their expensive and critical equipment. A flotation or suspension rack case gives you the most protection.

There are 2 different designs to make these shock-mount anti-vibration rack systems. A more traditional way is to add a soft cushion of 25-30mm EVA foam around the rack case and then adding an external case. The advantage of such cases is that they are 100% customizable in terms of height and gap between the front and rear rack strips. The other way of doing it is to install a ready-made anti-vibration rack system into the rack case. We use Penn Elcom 8700/8800 rack mount system for this purpose. Such systems come in some standard heights and depths to choose from.

Stackable Slam Door Rack Case

19-inch custom rack cases are often used to house professional equipment including amplifiers, effects units, interfaces, and the like. Our stackable design allows you to store multiple types of equipment in one rack case so that you don’t need to fumble over several cases to complete one set-up.

Slam doors are self-contained doors that are used instead of the typical lid case configurations. It’s usually placed in the front and/or back of an upright case and opens upward and slide into the case at the top so that you do not lose the lid.

These rack cases are made stackable and lockable between each other as well as locking to a castor board. The benefit of this for hiring and production companies is that all the individual rack cases can be hired out by themselves for small jobs, or multiple rack cases can be stacked and locked into each other forming a system including power, processors, and data distributors for larger ones. This feature makes such stackable lockable rack cases very versatile. It saves the cost of building a new system in the warehouse, also the cost of purchasing more road cases of different sizes.

Interchangeable Rack Flight Cases

Commonly used for computer servers and control boxes, interchangeable rack cases are great at housing multiple modules without the need of a large number of individual cases. This type of equipment has interchangeable trays that can be taken out and replaced with another. This allows you to choose between different equipment to store in one case, depending on what you need during a job. The design is very similar to stackable cases, but with the added versatility.

Custom rack cases that house a good number of equipment can be heavy, so we make them easier to lift and transfer by adding custom handles and heavy duty wheels. We also partner with Penn Elcom for quality hardware. Great for quick set-ups, this design can be customised for a wide range of equipment.
